| Jennifer Asher: The Adoption Consultant Let me help guide you on your adoption path. | ![]() |
My name is Jennifer Asher and I have been helping families to find their children through adoption since 2003. I have three young children myself, two of whom joined my family through adoption. Through my own adoption experience, and those of my many clients, I believe that I have a unique perspective on navigating the adoption process.
I have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. I worked in business doing accounting and finance before returning to school and changing my focus to the helping profession. After attending graduate school, I worked with the severely mentally ill and also with children and adolescents in a school for emotionally troubled youth.
After the adoption of my oldest child, Hilary, in 2001, I developed a strong interest in all aspects of adoption. I worked for a small adoption agency doing birthmother counseling, but had more interest in sharing my experience and expertise with other adoptive families. I have been doing aspects of this education and support since 2002.
While seeking to adopt my second child in 2003, I became acquainted with a group of adoption consultants. I quickly joined the group and began to help families through their adoptions. I was there to support many families as they found their children through adoption.
In 2006, I wanted to provide more personalized and specific support to clients than was possible while working with a group of other consultants. I began working as The Adoption Consultant so that I can develop a very close relationship with my clients and provide them with the specific support and education that will be helpful for their particular family.
The adoption process can be difficult, scary and very emotional. It is my goal to make this process easier for as many families as possible. I can help families to focus their priorities and goals to determine what path they should follow to grow their family.
If we determine together that adoption is the right choice for your family, then I am able to help as much or as little as you want me to. I can help prepare you emotionally both for the adoption process and for your future life as an adoptive family. Beyond the emotional support, I can help with all the logistics of the adoption process. From my experience working with birthmothers, agencies, attorneys and adoptive families, I believe that I can help families write a birthmother letter and put together a family profile that will accurately represent the family and be appealing to birthmothers. I can help you evaluate and select other adoption professionals and specific potential situations. I try my best to provide any support that a family needs, both practical and emotional. I have even done a client’s baby shopping when that is what she needed!
